Books by the foot

Back when I worked at (the alas now closed) Dutton’s in North Hollywood, one of the most amusing parts of the job occurred when prop people from the studios came in to buy books to put on tv or film sets. Haven’t thought about that in a while, but the Strand Bookstore reminded me:

Books by the foot. Starts at only $10 per foot.

I suppose it works for some people, but there is no possible universe in which I would ever say…’hmm….these shelves are empty…need more books purchased in increments of one foot.’

haha I always found that saying at The Strand strange, but I think back to the fancy leather covers my mother bought to house in our new bookshelves in the library/study room. I suppose its the same thing when people buy vases or knick knacks to decorate
